OpenAI's Astra believed to have entered API backend: Model ID changed from 400 to 404

Dynamic Beating AI News: The OpenAI Responses API is now returning a 404 "Not Found" error for the suspected Astra model with the ID gpt-6-astra.

Prior to this change, providing a non-existent model name would result in a 400 error, but now gpt-6-astra is returning a 404. Based on the error code difference in the OpenAI API, this indicates that the model ID has likely been added to the backend but has not been publicly released yet.

A similar signal was seen with Anthropic Fable 5.1 in the past. Before its launch on AWS Bedrock, the model ID also shifted from 400 to 404 and was subsequently officially released.

However, gpt-6-astra may not be the final name. According to The Information, OpenAI had once considered naming Astra as GPT-6 but later abandoned that idea.
