Rumor has it that Astra will announce in early September, with the new address predicting that GPT-6 will be released before October.

According to PolyBeats monitoring, on the prediction market Polymarket, a new account has placed a $1.6k bet on "Will GPT-6 be released before September 30, 2026?" with an average buy-in probability of 50.0%. The current probability for "Yes" is 47.0%.

On August 27, Wired reported that OpenAI is testing Persistent mode in Codex. This mode allows an agent to continuously execute tasks, proactively create follow-up work, and plan actions based on a user's past interactions. OpenAI has confirmed this test without announcing a rollout date yet; Wired stated that Astra has embraced training agents for long-term operation.

On August 29, Twitter account Lentils posted videos of games, webpages, and 3D scenes that are suspected to be generated by Astra, stating that OpenAI is expanding internal testing under the codename mozaik-alpha-fdm.

On August 30, Twitter account synthwavedd mentioned that Astra has been handed over to some partners for testing under the name ultima-alpha, with a potential public release window between September 3–10. Token Gremlin and other accounts subsequently shared similar timelines. OpenAI has not yet confirmed these codenames, testing plans, or release dates.
