As Trump Resumes Impeachment Effort, Federal Reserve Governor Powell Once Again Denies Wrongdoing

BlockBeats News, August 27th. Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook once again denied unsubstantiated mortgage fraud allegations repeatedly raised by Trump. Trump is considering whether to restart his efforts to impeach her, a move that is likely to trigger another intense legal battle over the independence of the Federal Reserve. In a letter sent to the White House on Wednesday, Cook's lawyer stated that these accusations were "baseless and false."

The letter stated: "Governor Cook has never engaged in mortgage fraud or any intentional misconduct, and there is no legal basis to remove her from the Federal Reserve Board."

According to sources familiar with the matter, Trump met with the top candidate for the new Federal Reserve Chair at the White House on Thursday, Kevin Walsh.
The Federal Reserve believes that the current economy has not fallen into a recession and does not need to stimulate demand through interest rate cuts.
If Cook resigns, it would potentially allow Trump to gain four seats, giving him a majority on the seven-member board.
