Morgan Stanley: NVIDIA's AI Financing Expansion Brings New Credit Risk

BlockBeats News, August 26th, Morgan Stanley recently initiated coverage on NVIDIA from a credit perspective and provided a neutral assessment. The bank believes that NVIDIA still has a very strong balance sheet and cash flow, but as the company's involvement in the AI infrastructure financing platform exceeding $500 billion, its credit exposure will become more complex.

Morgan Stanley's core focus is on NVIDIA's transition from a chip supplier to a further AI ecosystem financing enabler. In addition to direct GPU sales, the company may also help cloud providers and data center operators expand their computing power investments through residual value guarantees, revenue sharing, credit support, and partnership financing. The bank expects that by the end of 2028, NVIDIA's broad credit exposure could reach close to $200 billion.

This does not change NVIDIA's core position in AI hardware, but it will prompt the market to reevaluate its risk pricing. With the recent increased volatility in AI stocks, investors have begun to focus on cloud provider capex returns, AI revenue realization, and data center financing pressures. If AI computing asset depreciation is faster than expected in the future, or if some customers' cash flows fall short of market assumptions, NVIDIA's ecosystem financing arrangements will become a new valuation variable.
