The United States Considers Ramping Up Trade Sanctions on Canada

BlockBeats News, August 26th - Following Canadian Prime Minister Carney's announcement of retaliatory measures against the newly imposed U.S. tariffs, the Trump administration is discussing further trade sanctions against Canada. A White House official revealed that the U.S.'s additional escalation against its northern neighbor may include raising tariffs and other trade actions, with the U.S. government expected to respond to Canada's latest moves. The official noted that President Trump has a range of tools to address this dispute following the breakdown of U.S.-Canada trade negotiations.

Canada announced yesterday that it will impose 15% to 50% tariffs on approximately $200 billion worth of U.S. goods; Canada will increase tariffs on American steel products from 25% to 50%. The Canadian government stated that starting from September 8th, it will impose retaliatory tariffs of 15%, 25%, or 50% on approximately 700 products.
