Strait of Hormuz Main Shipping Lane Reopens, U.S. Says All Mines Cleared

BlockBeats News, August 26th – According to Axios, the U.S. Navy has cleared the main shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz, the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) located between Iran and Oman, to allow more oil tankers to pass through.

Per U.S. officials, in the past few months, the U.S. Navy's underwater drones conducted a systematic scan of the area and identified over 100 suspected mines, which were then cleared or detonated in a joint effort between the U.S. military and private companies. In the last 30 days, over 500 vessels have traversed the southern channel of the strait, with only about 2% experiencing Iranian drone or missile attacks.

President Trump stated that any re-mining of ships or vessels would be "immediately and systematically destroyed." U.S. officials noted that with the main waterway reopened, ships can now pass through the Strait of Hormuz under U.S. protection in both directions, facilitating more oil to enter the global market.
