BlockBeats News, August 25th, according to the Trump financial disclosure document, his investment portfolio manager purchased SpaceX stock worth between $15,001 and $50,000 shortly after SpaceX went public on June 23rd. The document shows that this transaction was one of over 1,000 trades made in Trump's investment portfolio in June.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle responded that the third-party institution responsible for managing Trump's investment portfolio mainly replicates "well-known indices" including the Schwab 1000, and Trump and his family are unable to direct, influence, or participate in the buying and selling decisions of the portfolio.
The disclosure document indicates that the purchase price of the stock was approximately $156.11, while SpaceX closed at $135 on Monday, the same as its IPO price, meaning that the investment is currently at a paper loss of about 13.5%.
As SpaceX is a government contractor and Trump has recently called for an increase in U.S. commercial space launches, Democratic lawmakers have raised questions about the related transactions and Trump's investment management arrangements. Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Robert Garcia previously sent a letter to Trump, requesting disclosure of the third-party institution responsible for managing his investments and the basis for transaction decisions, and questioned whether his significant stock trades during his tenure could potentially conflict with his government duties.
