The latest news from Beat AI, OpenCode has eliminated the first-month half-price discount for the Go package. Originally priced at $5 for the first month and $10/month thereafter, new users will now start directly from $10. Co-founder Dax Raad responded that this new user price had attracted "a considerable amount of abuse," forcing the team to cancel it.
This promotion had indeed been exploited. In May, a user provided feedback on GitHub that they had subscribed to Go before, canceled, switched to a different payment channel, and surprisingly only paid $5 again. He suspected that the eligibility for the discount was not entirely linked to the OpenCode account, allowing old users to repeatedly benefit from the new user price. There were also reports of users registering multiple accounts to receive the $5 discount, then transferring the credits through an API for resale.
Dax mentioned that the team still wants to maintain the new user discount but will need to redesign it to prevent such easy exploitation.
