The Mac mini was out of stock for AI users, and Apple is expected to release a new model as soon as in the next few days.

Scoop from Dynamic AI, Apple is preparing to update the Mac mini, which could be released as soon as the next few days, possibly before the September iPhone event. This will be the first update to the Mac mini in nearly two years. Apple has been testing versions with the M5 and M6 series chips, but the final configuration is still undecided.

This update comes amidst an unusual shortage of the Mac mini. This year, due to its affordability, energy efficiency, and quiet operation, it has been increasingly used by many for running large models and AI agents locally. In April, several M4 Mac mini models were temporarily out of stock on the Apple website, and prices even surged on the second-hand market.

On the other hand, AI data centers are also scrambling for memory and storage chips. In May, Apple directly removed the $599 256GB base model, raising the starting price of the Mac mini to $799. Cook has also acknowledged previously that the supply constraints of the Mac mini will continue for some time.
