Tencent Games Restructures AI Team: Following the Seedance Acquisition, Aims to Use Video Models Directly in Games

Perception Beating AI News Flash: Tencent's IEG is reportedly undergoing a major AI game team restructuring, focusing on leveraging video world models and AI-native games. The new organization will integrate the ARC Lab with the existing game AI team and will continue significant hiring.

The two teams originally had different focuses. The ARC Lab was more oriented towards cutting-edge research, mainly working on world models, game agents, and generative AI, while the game AI team was more focused on engineering and implementation, responsible for turning capabilities such as large models and agents into game development tools and infrastructure.

This adjustment aims to bring together "researching models" and "using models in games." The new department will cover directions such as audiovisual base models, data, video world models, agents, and products. The team formation strategy also draws inspiration from ByteDance's Seedance and Kuaishou Kelin, including talent, data, and training engineering. Leaks suggest that the team currently consists of about a hundred people, with future expansion plans to reach 400 to 500 people. One of the ultimate goals is to explore using video models to directly generate interactive game worlds.
