BlockBeats News, August 22nd. Analysts say U.S. President Trump is attempting to achieve what tens of thousands of bombs and missiles couldn't accomplish by imposing a new round of sanctions, maritime blockades, and increasing economic pressure on Iran and its trading partners — compelling Iran to end the war on American terms.
However, this "force Iran to submit" approach faces a fatal obstacle: the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran has effective control of the Strait of Hormuz and has repeatedly launched large numbers of attack drones towards the Persian Gulf. The Revolutionary Guard Corps is largely immune to economic pressure and holds plenty of retaliation cards. A key point in this U.S. action will be on Monday when Treasury Secretary Besent will unveil details of a new plan. This plan aims to shift the conflict from mutual airstrikes in the Middle East to comprehensive economic isolation.
Nevertheless, once the new economic pressure truly takes effect, Iran is likely to respond with military strikes targeting energy facilities along the Persian Gulf, attempting to raise oil prices and increase the cost of the U.S.'s actions, forcing Trump to change course once again.
