BlockBeats News, August 22nd, The Sandbox team announced that they have confirmed and fully controlled the recent SAND cross-chain bridge vulnerability incident involving the Base and BNB Smart Chain (BSC) networks.
The team stated that the impact of this incident is limited, involving a token amount of less than 0.01% of the total SAND supply. SAND on Ethereum and Polygon is not affected, user wallets have not been compromised, and related token holders and liquidity providers do not need to take any action.
It was disclosed that the attacker exploited the vulnerability to mint uncollateralized SAND tokens on the Base and BSC networks. Currently, The Sandbox has disabled the SAND cross-chain functionality on the two networks, and SAND on Base and BSC has been isolated and cannot be transferred or exchanged temporarily.
The Sandbox reminds users not to buy, sell, or trade SAND on the Base and BSC networks as the liquidity on these networks has been impacted.
The team has stated that they have conducted a pre-incident snapshot and are developing a compensation plan for affected liquidity pool (LP) users. They are also continuing to investigate the scope of the vulnerability's impact and will release a full incident report and technical retrospective in the future.
