The US Treasury Department will at least double the size of its long-term bond repurchase operation.

BlockBeats News, August 19th. The U.S. Department of the Treasury issued a notice announcing that it will at least double the size of its liquidity support reverse repurchase transactions for long-term nominal Treasury securities, covering two maturity ranges: 10 to 20 years and 20 to 30 years. The current maximum size per operation is $20 billion, and the future minimum size per operation will be increased to $40 billion. This adjustment will take effect on September 9, 2026, and will be implemented for the remainder of this quarter's refinancing period (until November 4, 2026).

The Treasury Department will provide more information on future repurchase sizes at the next quarterly refunding meeting scheduled for November 4, 2026. This expansion of the repurchase operation size reflects the Treasury's desire to provide stronger liquidity support to the long-term nominal Treasury market. The Treasury Department will later announce the updated temporary Treasury repurchase arrangements.
