Yutu CEO Wang Xingxing revealed in a 2020 interview with GeekPark that the development of quadruped robots was actually a coincidence. When he applied for a postgraduate program at Zhejiang University that year, although his overall score was not low, he failed to meet the English language requirement. As a result, he was eventually transferred to Shanghai University, where he began to focus on quadruped robots. Wang Xingxing later described this experience as "a blessing in disguise." In his view, it is very difficult to find a so-called shortcut in life in advance. Instead, it is more like climbing a mountain, where you can only roughly determine a direction first and then continuously adjust based on the problems encountered along the way.
