BlockBeats News, August 18th, Security company Bitdefender announced this week that a large number of pirated download files disguised as the newly released blockbuster movie "Odyssey" have appeared online, with Lumma Stealer information-stealing malware bundled inside. This malware searches for sensitive information, including cryptocurrency wallets.
According to Bitdefender, these malicious files started to appear shortly after the movie was released, disguised as high-definition WEBRip and Blu-ray versions, with file names deliberately mimicking legitimate torrent resources. In reality, these files are Windows executable programs that, when run, infect the computer instead of playing the movie.
To enhance deception, attackers often use icons resembling VLC Media Player or video files to disguise the malicious program. Because Windows hides file extensions by default, many users find it difficult to distinguish between an ".exe" executable file and a genuine video file, making it easier to accidentally run the malware.
