BlockBeats News, August 17th. Following Samsung, Western Digital, and Toshiba, SK Hynix was also reported to have a situation of SSD after-sales service offering "refund only, no replacement." A Reddit user recently applied for warranty service for an SK Hynix SSD, but due to the official lack of available inventory for replacement, the final solution was not to replace the same model of the product, but to refund based on the original purchase price.
This is particularly awkward given the current continuous rise in SSD prices. For example, for SK Hynix Platinum P41, P51, and other products, the prices of some capacities have significantly increased compared to the previous low prices, with some even reaching about twice the price at the time of purchase. For users whose previously purchased SSDs have malfunctioned and can only receive the original purchase amount, they may no longer be able to afford a product of the same specifications.
More importantly, this handling method does have a basis in SK Hynix's existing warranty terms. Its official website terms clearly state that if a product cannot be repaired or replaced, a refund can be made based on the lower of the original purchase price and the current fair market value.
Therefore, the more accurate statement at present is not that SK Hynix has completely stopped SSD replacements, but that in cases where there is a lack of replacement inventory, some after-sales cases will adopt the original price refund solution. For consumers, the problem lies in the fact that after the rise in SSD prices, the original price refund may no longer cover the cost of repurchasing a similar-grade product.
