BlockBeats News, August 16th, according to Reuters, Nvidia is in talks to invest up to $3 billion in SB Energy, a subsidiary of SoftBank Group. SB Energy is developing power and data center infrastructure for OpenAI's large-scale data center project in Ohio, USA.
This potential investment is part of the financing arrangement between Nvidia, OpenAI, and SB Energy for the Ohio data center project. The three parties are discussing providing about $10 billion in credit support for the project. Nvidia is considering investing $1.5 billion at the signing of the project agreement and another $1.5 billion when SB Energy plans to go public.
SB Energy could go public as early as next month and aims to raise at least $5 billion through an IPO. The company was established in 2019 and is currently developing multiple large power and data center projects to meet the infrastructure demands arising from the growth in AI workloads.
Furthermore, Nvidia has adjusted its support scheme for OpenAI's Ohio data center project, with the initial guarantee size expected to be less than $120 billion, a significant decrease from the previously discussed $250 billion.
