OpenAI's annualized revenue surpasses $40 billion, nearly doubling in 7 months

According to MotionPoint Beating Tracker, OpenAI's annualized revenue run rate has exceeded $40 billion, close to doubling from the over $20 billion mark at the end of 2025. The revenue has continued to accelerate in recent months, with a growth of over 20% just in July.

This growth is not only driven by ChatGPT subscriptions. Bloomberg reports that revenue contributions from AI programming products like Codex are increasing, subscription services are growing, and the nascent advertising business is also starting to generate revenue. The recently launched products such as ChatGPT Work and Codex Agent have seen a significant increase in demand as well.

However, OpenAI has not yet caught up to the figures announced by Anthropic. Anthropic announced in May that its annualized revenue has exceeded $47 billion; however, the two companies' revenue calculation methods may be different, making a direct comparison difficult. Both companies have secretly filed for IPO, with Anthropic possibly being the first to go public as early as this fall.
