Stalemate in US-Iran Negotiations Leads to Over 5% Surge in Oil Prices, Nearly 3% Drop in Semiconductor Index, and Sharp Decline in Fiber Optic Stocks

BlockBeats News, August 11th - U.S. President Trump responded on Monday to Iran's proposed peace agreement conditions, demanding Iran to compensate for those who died in the war, attacks, and protest activities. His escalated rhetoric may complicate efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Iranian officials reiterated their compensation demands, directly linking the issue to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The prospect of U.S.-Iran negotiations has deteriorated once again, and talks on reopening the Strait of Hormuz have reached a stalemate, causing a sharp rebound in international oil prices. According to Bitget data, on Monday, WTI crude oil futures rose above $82 per barrel, with an intraday increase of over 5%, while Brent crude surpassed $87 per barrel and recorded a fourth consecutive gain. The rapid rise in energy prices has reignited market concerns about inflation and a possible interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve later this year, causing U.S. bond yields to rise across the board.

According to BIT (bit.com) market data, U.S. stocks closed lower on Monday, with the Dow down 0.1%, the S&P 500 down 0.06%, and the Nasdaq down 0.32%. The semiconductor sector was under pressure, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index falling by 2.94%. Nvidia's related financing plan has become another significant factor weighing on the technology sector. Reports suggested that Nvidia is teaming up with Wall Street giants to plan a $500 billion AI infrastructure financing, and some investors are concerned that such an arrangement could form a "circular financing" structure, casting doubt on the authenticity of the demand for AI.

Semiconductor stocks saw a widespread decline, with Arm falling by 5.21%, Marvell Technology (MRVL) by 4.65%, Intel (INTC) by 4.06%, Qualcomm (QCOM) by 3.39%, Applied Materials (AMAT) by 3.16%, Nvidia (NVDA) and AMD both down by 2.86%.

Optical communication concept stocks led the decline, with Coherent (COHR) falling by 14.26%, Lumentum (LITE) by 8.61%, Ciena (CIEN) by 5.98%, Astera Labs (ALAB) by 5.07%, Corning (GLW) by 4.78%, Credo (CRDO) by 3.98%.

The performance of the storage sector varied, with SanDisk (SNDK) up by 2.12%, Western Digital (WDC) up by 0.93%; SkyHigh (SKHY) down by 1.90%, Micron Technology (MU) down by 1.89%, Seagate Technology (STX) down by 1.45%.
