Cryptocurrency Custodian BitGo's CEO Challenges Anthropic with 100 BTC: "AI Hacker Risk" Overhyped

BlockBeats News, August 3rd - Cryptocurrency custody provider Bitgo's CEO Mike Belshe deposited 100 BTC to a public Bitcoin address on August 1st, worth approximately $6.3 million at the time, and invited Anthropic's Claude model to attempt to move the funds from that address. On-chain records show that the wallet received funds on July 31st, and as of August 2nd, no funds have been withdrawn.

Anthropic previously disclosed that during 141006 network security assessment runs, 3 events were identified where 6 assessment sessions involved 3 models inadvertently interacting with real organizational systems. The relevant models include Claude Opus 4.7, Claude Mythos 5, and an unreleased internal research model, as a third-party testing partner Irregular misconfigured the testing environment to be internet-facing.

Belshe's challenge this time involved the Bitgo institutional custody platform, which employs multi-signature or multiparty computation technology to distribute signing authority across multiple independent keys. As of August 2nd, Anthropic has not publicly responded to this challenge.
