Founder Sells Part of Stake as Bloomberg Reports First IPO Talks

According to PolyBeats monitoring, on the prediction market Polymarket, the probability of the new market "Will Bloomberg go public by December 31, 2027?" being "Yes" is currently 20%.

On July 28, Semafor cited insiders saying that Bloomberg L.P. executives have recently had preliminary discussions with investment banks regarding a potential IPO or other capital transaction. The discussions are still in an informal stage, and the company has not disclosed underwriters, filing documents, or a timeline for the transaction.

Michael Bloomberg, 84, recently transferred some of his personal shares to the Bloomberg Philanthropies foundation. Insiders say this arrangement could reduce tax costs when the company goes public or sells equity in the future. Michael Bloomberg is estimated to hold about 88% of the company's equity, with Bloomberg L.P. generating approximately $15 billion in annual revenue. The valuation provided by investment bankers exceeds $80 billion. The company's main business is financial data and analytics services, with its flagship product, the Bloomberg Terminal, providing real-time market data, trading information, and communication tools to global financial institutions.

Bloomberg L.P. spokesperson Ty Trippet stated that Michael Bloomberg still controls the company and currently has no plans to sell it. In 2023, Michael Bloomberg stated that the Bloomberg Philanthropies foundation would inherit the company after his death and subsequently sell the relevant assets. The company appointed Bloomberg executive Vlad Kliatchko as CEO that year and established a new board of directors.
