Iran Demands Ships Passing Through the Strait of Hormuz to Cross Iranian Waters

BlockBeats News, July 29th, according to Reuters citing a senior Iranian official, Iran has rejected Oman's proposal for a joint administration mechanism for managing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has also proposed that one of the two shipping lanes for vessels passing through the strait must entirely traverse Iranian waters, while the other must partially pass through Iranian waters.

A senior Iranian official stated that Iran insists that the entire inbound shipping lane through the strait and part of the outbound lane must be under Iranian control. Iran believes that Oman's control should correspond to its share in the waterway, and establishing a joint management mechanism based on equal shares with Oman does not serve Iran's interests.

This Iranian official mentioned that only Iran and Oman can decide on the management of the Strait of Hormuz based on their respective shares, and Iran rejects any other country's influence on this matter. The official also revealed that the United States and Saudi Arabia are trying to pressure Oman to advance their "unrealistic" plans for the strait.
