Myanmar Enacts Tough Laws to Combat Scams: Perpetrators of Cryptocurrency Fraud Face Life Imprisonment

BlockBeats News, July 28th, the Myanmar parliament on Tuesday passed a law allowing the death penalty for individuals who engage in online fraud using violence or illegal detention to coerce others. According to a draft law published in May this year, if such abusive behavior results in the victim's death, the offender "shall be sentenced to death".

The new law also stipulates that individuals operating online fraud schemes or engaging in "digital currency fraud (cryptocurrency fraud)" could face a maximum penalty of life imprisonment; while offenders who use violence to coerce or illegally detain others could be sentenced to 10 years to life imprisonment.
