According to Donkatsu Beating monitoring, the Seoul High Court in South Korea is set to reissue a ruling today on the asset division case between SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and his ex-wife, Roh So-young. The two have divorced and are now only fighting over how to split their assets.
In 2024, a lower court's ruling ordered Chey Tae-won to pay 13,808 billion Korean won, nearly $10 billion. However, the South Korean Supreme Court found issues with the calculation basis last year, overturned part of the asset division, and sent it back for a retrial.
Today's ruling will once again decide how much Roh So-young will receive and how to evaluate Chey Tae-won's stake in SK Group. The results have not been disclosed yet.
The AI frenzy has once again raised the stakes. SK Hynix's stock price has surged nearly tenfold since early 2025, doubling Chey Tae-won's net worth. If the court still orders close to $10 billion, he may need to take out loans, sell assets, or pledge his shares.
