Micron CEO's Divorce Settlement Ruling Today Could Reshape Corporate Landscape

BlockBeats News, July 24th, SK Hynix's leader, Choi Tae-won, is about to face a new round of court ruling in the long-running divorce dispute with his ex-wife. This case is likely to become the highest compensation divorce case in South Korean history. The Seoul High Court will announce the ruling on Friday, deciding how much of Choi Tae-won's $5.5 billion fortune should be divided with his ex-wife, Roh Soo-young.

The core of this judgment lies in how the South Korean court will evaluate the value of Roh Soo-young's contribution to building one of South Korea's largest corporate empires. Roh Soo-young initially requested to receive a 42.29% stake in SK Holdings, held by Choi Tae-won, a demand that could affect his control of the company. She later adjusted her claim to seek cash compensation.

In 2024, the court had ruled for Choi Tae-won to pay Roh Soo-young 13.8 trillion Korean won (approximately $10 billion) in divorce settlement, setting a record for the highest divorce compensation amount in South Korea. However, after Choi Tae-won appealed, the South Korean Supreme Court overturned the verdict, citing that the previous ruling inaccurately included the contribution of Roh Soo-young's father, former South Korean President Roh Tae-woo, in illegal funds into the calculation of the couple's wealth.
