BlockBeats News, July 23, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that it will hold a roundtable discussion at its Washington headquarters on September 17, 2026, to discuss issues related to the transition of the U.S. stock market to 24-hour trading. Topics will include preparations to support overnight trading, operations and resilience in a round-the-clock market, and the opportunities and challenges of expanding trading hours.
SEC Chairman Paul Atkins stated in a release, "We are moving toward a new day—and a new night—for the U.S. stock market. With the expansion to overnight trading, I am excited to see the U.S. stock market align with those markets that already have continuous trading and look forward to achieving a balanced 24-hour trading environment while safeguarding investors and clients."
This roundtable discussion will be open to the public, and the discussion will be webcast on the SEC's website, with a video replay available afterwards. This roundtable marks another step by the SEC under Atkins' leadership in modernizing the U.S. capital market infrastructure, following the electronic delivery rule and crypto regulatory framework.
