Video | NVIDIA Founder Jensen Huang: Opposing US Ban on Chinese Open-Source AI

On July 21, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said in an interview with Axios that the U.S. should not ban or restrict companies from using Chinese open-source models such as Kimi. He emphasized the importance of both closed-source and open-source models, with the latter being crucial for research, cybersecurity, national security, and economic security.

He argued that there is a misconception that Chinese open-source models may contain backdoors, but once downloaded, companies can fine-tune, enhance, and set up security barriers themselves. As long as the model is of high quality, it should be used. Huang also stated that powerful open-source models do not compete with closed-source models but rather drive the adoption of AI, leading to increased demand for more computing power, data centers, and services, ultimately benefiting the entire industry.
