OpenAI Poaches Xiaopeng's Head of AI Infrastructure, Landers Sun, Whose Team of 200 May Be Disbanded

According to Dynamic Beating monitoring, Lucien Lu, Head of AI Infrastructure at XPeng Motors, is about to resign and is currently in the process of handover. His next stop is OpenAI, where he will be involved in embodied AI robot development.

Lucien Lu is responsible for XPeng's end-to-end AI infrastructure, from model training to mass production deployment, overseeing a team of about 200 people. His work covers training frameworks, GPU clusters, in-house chip compiler, model quantization optimization, and on-vehicle deployment.

This position is particularly critical for XPeng. As XPeng has taken the self-developed chip route, both the compiler and the inference runtime system need to be built in-house. As no replacement has been found yet, Lucien Lu's team is expected to be split into three or more independent teams.

The OpenAI website is currently recruiting robotics software, simulation, and firmware engineers. The official statement mentions that the robotics team is developing general-purpose robots that can operate in real-world environments and integrate models, hardware, and software.
