Trump Permanent Daylight Saving Time Bill Passes US House Consideration

BlockBeats News, July 15. The U.S. House of Representatives passed the bipartisan Sunshine Protection Act with 308 votes in favor and 117 votes against. The bill aims to make Daylight Saving Time permanent, adopting the current time schedule from March to November throughout the year. This change will permanently set the U.S. stock market opening time to 9:30 p.m. (UTC+8), eliminating the shift to 10:30 p.m. (UTC+8) during the winter time period. States can choose to be exempt before the bill takes effect. The bill has been sent to the Senate for review but has not yet been passed by the Senate.

Former President Trump publicly supported the bill, stating that the biannual time changes incur significant economic costs and expressing his efforts to make it a law. Some Republicans opposed the bill, arguing that the late sunrise in winter could affect student safety on their way to school, potentially resulting in traveling to school in the dark or delayed class times. Supporters believe that eliminating time changes can improve sleep, reduce accidents, and promote economic activities.
