According to Dynamic Beating monitoring, Bloomberg cited sources familiar with the matter, reporting that OpenAI's first consumer hardware is a screenless AI speaker. It features a built-in battery, camera, and sensors, allowing users to easily move it between rooms and understand the surrounding environment.
This device is positioned as an "AI companion." It can control smart home devices, play content, answer questions, and respond to messages. The system can also access emails and other personal information to gradually learn about the user and proactively provide relevant information.
The device also includes a self-moving mechanical structure to make it more lifelike. The voice capabilities will be based on GPT-Live, enabling it to both listen and speak simultaneously.
OpenAI plans to unveil the product this year and release it in 2027. However, the product is still in development, so details may change. Apple has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI for alleged theft of hardware trade secrets and is seeking an injunction, which could impact the launch timeline.
