According to TrendWatch Beating Monitor, AI whistleblower account leo claimed that OpenAI's GPT-5.6 will be the final generation of the 5.x series, with GPT-6 expected to be released in about a month, or possibly even sooner.
The leak mentions that GPT-6 will be based on a new, larger pre-training base, instead of continuing to use the rumored Spud base of GPT-5.5 / GPT-5.6. The Spud base is estimated to be 4T parameters. OpenAI had originally planned to use Spud for GPT-6 but ultimately switched to a larger base.
leo also stated that internally at OpenAI, there is great excitement about the new base, believing it is better suited to compete against Anthropic's Fable 5 and the upcoming Fable 5.1.
The same leak also mentioned that DeepSeek is preparing to launch V4 GA, with performance that may match or exceed GLM-5.2. DeepSeek has also started developing larger-scale models to compete against the MiniMax program's upcoming 27 trillion parameter MiniMax Pro / M3 Pro.
