BlockBeats News, July 7th, global semiconductor giant Samsung Electronics released a very strong preliminary second-quarter financial report. The data shows that driven by the artificial intelligence (AI) boom, the world's largest memory chip maker is experiencing its most brilliant profit cycle in history.
According to the financial report, Samsung's operating profit in the second quarter surged by 1810.2% year-on-year, reaching 89.4 trillion South Korean won (about $58 billion). This number not only far exceeded the market's previous expectation of 84.2 trillion South Korean won but also astonishingly surpassed the total profit of the company from 2023 to 2025. At the same time, the company's revenue also increased by 129% year-on-year, reaching 171 trillion South Korean won.
After Samsung Electronics announced its performance forecast, SanDisk (SNDK.O) and Micron Technology (MU.O) fell in after-hours trading on the US stock market.
Samsung's performance explosion is directly benefiting from the almost "desperate" orders for high-performance storage chips from AI data centers. Industry giants such as Nvidia and OpenAI have repeatedly stated that the shortage of memory chips has become a core bottleneck in current AI development.
As major manufacturers prioritize the production capacity of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) specifically designed for AI to ensure higher profits, this has squeezed the availability of conventional memory space required for smartphones, PCs, and enterprise servers. This "capacity squeeze-out" effect has plunged the global storage market into a severe shortage. HSBC data shows that in the second quarter of 2026, the average selling price of DRAM rose by over 40% from the previous quarter, and NAND prices increased by over 50%; Citigroup's research offered higher estimates of 44% and 53% respectively.
Analysts generally believe that this "seller's market" situation will last at least until 2027, giving Samsung and its longtime rivals SK Hynix and Micron Technology strong pricing power.
Samsung Electronics plans to release its official financial report on July 30th, when it will disclose detailed operational details of each business unit.
