The United States has decided not to renew the USMCA and will instead conduct a rolling review and negotiation.

BlockBeats News, July 1st, U.S. Trade Representative Grier announced that the United States has decided not to renew the trade agreement with Canada and Mexico, opting instead to conduct an annual review of the agreement.

This move may introduce uncertainty for businesses producing goods across North America. As long as no party decides to withdraw, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) will remain in effect for ten years. The decision to conduct an annual review instead of a long-term renewal sets the stage for contentious negotiations in the coming years; these negotiations will involve rules governing the entire North American supply chain and the low-tariff arrangements crucial to automakers, farmers, and energy companies.

Prior to the official announcement, Grier stated that the Trump administration is "not prepared to automatically approve the agreement." He said, "We see substantial issues" that need to be addressed through multiple modifications to rectify existing imbalances.
