Powell Declines to Comment on Whether the Fed Will Raise Rates in July

BlockBeats News, July 1st, Federal Reserve Chair Powell dodged questions about whether the Fed might raise interest rates at the July meeting. "I hope that when we meet in four weeks, we can have a full 'family discussion'," he said. "When we close the doors and have our meeting, we'll have a vigorous debate. But beyond that, I have no more information to provide."

Powell made the remarks at the European Central Bank's annual policy symposium held in Sintra, Portugal; this was his first public appearance since attending a Fed press conference last month. Since then, investors have begun to anticipate more rate hikes from the Fed, but the market currently estimates the probability of the first rate hike this month at less than 50%. (FXStreet)
