WSJ: Iran Attacks Cargo Ship, Testing US-Iran Cease-Fire Deal

BlockBeats News, June 26th, according to WSJ report, two senior American officials revealed that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard attacked a cargo ship flying the Singaporean flag in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. This move tested the agreement signed last week between the US and Iran aimed at ending the conflict and restarting this crucial waterway.

According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the attack caused damage to the ship's bridge but did not result in any casualties. The attack took place near the coast of Oman, and hours earlier, the Iranian quasi-military navy had issued a warning, instructing vessels not to use unauthorized routes.

The International Maritime Organization stated that following the ship's attack, the evacuation plan for vessels and crew stranded in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz has been temporarily suspended. The vessel attacked on Thursday in the Gulf of Oman did not transit under the organization's framework for evacuation. The UN's evacuation plan for the Strait of Hormuz will be on hold until further clarification is received.
