According to Watchdog Beating Monitor, the Trump administration is pressuring Meta to submit its artificial intelligence model for voluntary security assessment, focusing on detecting security vulnerabilities and technical capabilities. Currently, Meta is the only major U.S. AI company that has not yet reached a voluntary assessment agreement with the U.S. government. Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI have all agreed to submit their models to the Artificial Intelligence Standards and Innovation Center, a subsidiary of the U.S. Department of Commerce, for review. Meta spokesperson Francis Brennan has confirmed that negotiations are underway regarding the details of the agreement and expressed hope to sign soon.
The requirement for security assessment stems from a presidential executive order signed by Trump on June 2. The order mandates that tech companies provide the government with up to a 30-day evaluation period before releasing new models and calls for a specific review process to be established by the end of July.
