BlockBeats News, June 24th, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are exploring plans to expand their semiconductor cluster investment in the Hunan region (including Gwangju and Jeolla Province) and Chungcheong region, with the investment scale expected to reach hundreds of trillion Korean won.
According to the business community's news on the 23rd, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are coordinating the specific details of a large-scale regional investment plan that will be announced at the end of the month at the "National Land Spatial Transformation (Balanced National Development)" government-private joint meeting hosted by President Lee Jae-myung at the Blue House, which includes the above content.
It is reported that the two companies are considering a plan to construct both memory semiconductor production facilities (front-end) and packaging facilities (back-end) in the semiconductor clusters planned in Hunan and Chungcheong.
Initially, the industry expected Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to focus their investment on the back-end. However, with the discussion now including front-end construction, some analysts believe that the investment scale may expand further.
Considering that the cost of building a semiconductor fab is at least 60 trillion Korean won, some believe that the total investment by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix could reach 300 trillion to 400 trillion Korean won.
To discuss specific investment plans and strategies, the President will meet with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong on the 25th. It is reported that the President met with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won on the 19th.
