The US and Iran Accuse Each Other of Violating the Agreement but Remain at the Negotiation Table, Analysts Say Both Sides Have Their Own Calculations

BlockBeats News, June 21st, according to CNN, Sina Azodi, Director of the Middle East Studies Project at George Washington University, stated that despite both the US and Iran claiming each other's misconduct, the US and Iran have sent senior officials to Switzerland for talks as both parties have a "vested interest" in ending the conflict.

Azodi pointed out that Israel's attack on Lebanon is seen as a violation of the memorandum by Iran, and the US may also interpret Tehran's claims to close the Strait of Hormuz as a violation of the understanding memorandum. Azodi also suggested that Tehran may want to "test and see" if Washington can constrain Israel to end its hostile actions in Lebanon.

As of the time of posting, Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Munir have arrived in Switzerland to participate in US-Iran technical talks under the Islamabad understanding memorandum.
