IDF Says It Received Ceasefire Directive in Lebanon, But Operations Will Continue Within 'Security Zone'

BlockBeats News, June 21st. On June 20th local time, the Israeli Defense Forces stated that the IDF is continuing its military operation in the "security zone" in southern Lebanon. The current focus is on targeting a large Hezbollah underground tunnel system where dozens of armed individuals are hiding. Meanwhile, the IDF has declared a "ceasefire" in other areas of Lebanon.

The IDF mentioned that they have received directives from the political leadership to implement a ceasefire. However, the IDF emphasized that its forces will continue to work on destroying Hezbollah's armed infrastructure within its "security zone" and will respond to any "imminent threats" outside this zone.

Prior to this, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Gantz had given orders for the IDF to cease fire in Lebanon. According to these directives, the IDF will not immediately withdraw from southern Lebanon at this stage. There are also reports that following a situational assessment, the IDF Chief of Staff has ordered a ceasefire in southern Lebanon.
