BlockBeats News, June 20th. During an interview with Axios, U.S. President Trump stated that AI could be a weapon if used improperly; however, if used correctly, AI will be a big deal, potentially surpassing the scale of the Internet. AI may allow humanity to find medical cures for certain diseases 25 years ahead of time, but caution must be exercised.
When asked whether he sees Anthropic and its CEO Dario Amodei as a national security threat, Trump said, "Not now, but maybe a week ago." Trump mentioned that he had just met with Dario Amodei, who gave a speech during the G7 summit and promptly responded to government requests. Anthropic has so far demonstrated a high level of responsibility.
Regarding the possibility of shutting down or taking over Anthropic, Trump stated that he does not want to do so because the U.S. is significantly ahead of China in the field of AI. Since AI requires a massive amount of electricity, he proposed the idea of allowing AI companies to build their own power plants. The benefits of AI outweigh the drawbacks, and the government will identify and prevent any unfavorable aspects.
When asked whether he would use the Defense Production Act to regulate or control AI, Trump said that he would do so if necessary, but it is currently uncertain whether it is required. He also mentioned that France proposed the establishment of an international organization at the G7 and expressed a desire for the U.S. to share more AI technology, but the issue for the U.S. is that "we are too far ahead of the others."
