DeepMind Publishes ASI Report: AI Can Mitigate Research Slowdown, But Physical Delays Are Superintelligent Ultimate Brake

According to Watchful AI monitoring, Google DeepMind has released a new research report, indicating that the transition from Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) to Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) may not be a singular societal upheaval, but rather a series of continuous breakthroughs spanning multiple scientific fields. Addressing the traditional research difficulty escalation bottleneck, the report points out that although the number of researchers required to maintain Moore's Law is now eighteen times higher than in the 1970s, digital intelligences can be infinitely replicated, allowing humans to increase research resources twentyfold within hours, thus systematically offsetting the decline in research productivity.

Advancing towards superintelligence involves four parallel paths: scaling up, algorithmic evolution, recursive self-improvement, and multi-agent coordination. However, the transition process faces five major bottlenecks: the data wall, resource expenditure, neural network paradigm limitations, research difficulty escalation, and abstract barrier. The core constraint limiting scientific discovery lies in the abstract barrier, whereby systems trained solely on existing human data find it challenging to break free from current conceptual frameworks. For an agent to discover new concepts, it must interact with the real physical world to overcome embodiment bottlenecks. The validation process is constrained by physical latency, thus confining the hardware's recursive self-improvement loop to the speed of real-world experiments.

In terms of societal and organizational structure, the lossless replication and high-bandwidth information sharing capabilities of digital intelligence lead superintelligence to manifest in the form of collective intelligence rather than a single model. Through multi-agent coordination, AGI agents can form a virtual economic body or fully automated corporation through price signaling. High-bandwidth communication among AIs allows a single AI decision-maker to instantly communicate with all members. The deep bureaucratic hierarchical structures designed in traditional human organizations to overcome communication bottlenecks are completely flattened in superintelligent organizations.
