Trump Says He Will Sign US-Iran Agreement: Strait of Hormuz Could Reopen Immediately and Toll Cancelled

BlockBeats News, June 12th - According to multiple diplomatic sources and U.S. officials, the United States and Iran have reached an agreement on a memorandum of understanding, with President Trump expected to sign the deal in the coming days. The core elements of the agreement include the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the removal of transit fees, and a gradual easing of sanctions on Iran based on compliance.

The memorandum will extend the current ceasefire by 60 days and during this period, facilitate a new round of nuclear negotiations. The agreement framework involves a plan for handling Iran's enriched uranium stockpile, but the final arrangements for the nuclear program will require a more detailed agreement in the second phase.

Informed diplomatic sources stated that the current agreement text has been approved at the senior level in Iran but has yet to receive final political endorsement. The Iranian Foreign Ministry has stated that a final decision has not been made.

According to the draft, the U.S. will allow for a gradual lifting of sanctions based on "compliance and good faith," and may provide Iran with temporary waivers for phased oil exports to restore some of its fiscal revenue. At the same time, there are still differences in the unfreezing arrangements for Iran's frozen overseas assets, which could be released in installments or through a separate mechanism.

The agreement also involves the resumption of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz to pre-war levels, with a requirement to restore normal transport flow within 30 days, while the U.S. will simultaneously lift relevant blockade measures.

Diplomatic sources disclosed that the agreement was facilitated through mediation by Qatar and Pakistan, internally referred to as the "Islamabad Agreement." If eventually signed, an official signing ceremony is expected to take place in the coming days.
