Single-minded on a single direct report, the Anthropic CEO devotes half of their energy to company culture-building

According to Dynamic Beating monitoring, Anthropic is implementing an extreme form of flat management, with CEO Dario Amodei personally managing only his chief of staff. This contrasts sharply with the model where OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has around 6 direct reports and NVIDIA's Jensen Huang has a direct reporting structure of up to 60 individuals.

The executive team collectively reports to President Daniela Amodei (Dario Amodei's sister), who is responsible for day-to-day operations and reports to the board. With freed-up management time, Dario Amodei focuses on research direction and dedicates approximately half of his time to engaging with employees on company culture. Faced with a large influx of external hires due to rapid expansion, he actively avoids replicating the work habits of former employers within the team and personally leads employee meetings known as "vision quests" and writes extensive philosophical essays.

To support business growth, the company has onboarded external executives such as CFO Krishna Rao and CBO Paul Smith in 2024 and 2025. Even as professional managers are being introduced into the executive ranks, the original seven co-founders from the company's inception remain with the organization.
