Photographic Memory「Eidetic Memory」 Helps Thief Steal 107 Bitcoins, Chinese Man Sentenced to Ten Years and Nine Months for Theft

BlockBeats News, June 8th. The Supreme People's Procuratorate revealed a new type of cryptocurrency theft case yesterday. A man named Zhang from Shandong Province had long assisted his acquaintance Feng in handling cryptocurrency transactions. After gaining Feng's trust, Zhang took the initiative to suggest that Feng switch to a more convenient digital wallet. The wallet's asset mnemonic (key) is generated by the system randomly selecting 12 combinations from 2048 common English words, which is the core password for safeguarding the cryptocurrency.

Seizing the opportunity when Feng was transcribing the mnemonic, Zhang, relying solely on his naked eye and extraordinary memory, firmly remembered 11 complete words and even noted the first letter of the last word. That night, relying on fragmented memory, he repeatedly tested and combined to crack the code, successfully unlocking Feng's digital wallet, transferring 107 bitcoins and subsequently selling them for an illegal profit of 660,000 yuan.

The court ultimately sentenced him to ten years and nine months in prison for theft and imposed a fine of 100,000 yuan.
