According to Perceiving AI Monitoring, Nous Research has released the open-source AI agent framework Hermes Agent v0.16.0 (v2026.6.5) official version. Following the previous release of the desktop preview version, the new version, through remote gateway connection and web-based configuration, officially advances the Hermes framework to the productivity stage. The key upgrade is the introduction of a WebSocket-based remote gateway connection on the desktop, supporting secure authentication through OAuth or username and password. Users can run the desktop GUI on a lightweight laptop while hosting high AI computing power and API keys on remote servers or a home lab.
The web-based control panel has also been upgraded to a full-featured back-end management system. Users no longer need to manually edit the config.yaml configuration file by logging into the server via SSH but can directly enable or disable the MCP tool directory, bind instant messaging channels such as Telegram, Discord, Slack, manage credentials and webhooks, and adjust system memory in the browser. Additionally, to cater to Chinese developers, the new version provides complete Simplified Chinese localization support for the desktop.
In terms of core logic and usability, the default skill set has been streamlined to remove redundant and obsolete tools, reducing the model's contextual burden, and incorporating the NVIDIA/skills trusted Tap. The new version also introduces a fuzzy search model selector that is universal across desktop, web, TUI, and CLI interfaces and introduces the /undo undo command to support rolling back N rounds of conversation and re-editing, further enhancing the fault tolerance of human-machine collaboration.
