U.S. Judge Questions Trump's $1.8 Billion Fund Settlement Agreement, Seeks Response to Fraud Allegations

BlockBeats News, May 30th - According to The Washington Post, a U.S. federal judge on May 29th local time requested U.S. President Trump and his family lawyers to explain a controversial settlement agreement. The agreement involves Trump's lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the establishment of a fund of approximately $1.8 billion to compensate individuals who claim to have been subjected to "weaponization of the judicial system."

The judge pointed out in the ruling that the agreement faces "serious fraud allegations" and requested the Trump side to explain why this arrangement is a proper way to settle the litigation and why it should not be considered legally problematic.

Reports indicate that the fund was established by the U.S. Department of Justice under a settlement framework to compensate individuals who claim to have faced unfair investigations or enforcement actions. Due to the massive size and unique purpose of the fund, this arrangement has sparked widespread controversy in the legal and political fields since its announcement. Currently, the court has not made a final ruling on the legality of the agreement, and Trump and his family lawyers are required to provide further explanations to the court.

BlockBeats previously reported that on May 20th, U.S. Department of Justice documents revealed that Trump had reached an unusually settlement agreement with the federal government, ending a $10 billion lawsuit against him and his businesses filed by the IRS, with further expanding related terms. The agreement states that the IRS will be "permanently barred" from investigating or continuing existing audits related to Trump, his businesses, and his family's previous tax filings. The Department of Justice stated that this restriction only applies to the scope of existing audits.
