French Cryptocurrency Ransomware Case Investigation Unveils Transnational Money Laundering Network: Ransom Funds Funneled to Venezuelan Wallet

BlockBeats News, May 30th. French newspaper Le Monde revealed that a cryptocurrency-related kidnapping case from 2023 has seen new developments in the investigation. French law enforcement discovered a transnational money laundering network involving multiple countries and cryptocurrency wallets while tracing a €1.7 million cryptocurrency ransom.

In the case, the victim was the father of famous crypto influencer "TeufeurS." The kidnappers threatened the victim's family via text message and demanded a ransom payment in cryptocurrency. Ultimately, TeufeurS transferred a total of €1.7 million to the designated wallet in two separate transactions, after which the victim's father was released.

The investigation revealed that some of the ransom, after passing through multiple layers of transfers, ended up in a wallet controlled by a foreign national. A sum of $131,000 was successfully traced by the French Gendarmerie, leading to a Venezuelan individual's control of the cryptocurrency wallet. The case further exposed the intricate chain of criminals utilizing cross-border cryptocurrency transfers, anonymous wallets, and overseas platforms for money laundering.

Reports indicate that this case is considered a significant example of ransom kidnappings in the European cryptocurrency industry and may serve as an early template for multiple kidnapping cases targeting cryptocurrency professionals in France and Europe in 2025.
