THORChain Releases Latest Recovery Plan: Proposes Protocol-Owned Liquidity to Cover Losses, No RUNE Inflation
BlockBeats News, May 22nd. According to official sources, after the attack on THORChain on May 15th, the community has established a clear roadmap for recovery. Currently, Proposal ADR028 has been published, awaiting a node operator vote. The key points are as follows:
The protocol will first absorb the losses from this attack through the protocol's own liquidity, with the remaining portion shared among Synth holders (the specific sharing ratio is still under evaluation). During this process, the protocol's own liquidity will temporarily drop to zero, but the proposal suggests that future system revenue will be redirected to gradually replenish POL.
The GG20 TSS scheme will be temporarily retained for a patch upgrade. The transaction function will only resume once the vulnerability is fully fixed and the network successfully completes one Churn (node rotation). In the future, the protocol will adopt a slower and more security-focused version release rhythm.
Innocent nodes in the same treasury as the attacker will be protected, while the attacker's node's RUNE stake will be entirely confiscated. The recovered RUNE will be paired with the recovered assets from the affected treasuries, and any excess RUNE will be burned.
THORChain is offering a bounty to the attacker to encourage the return of funds. If funds are partially returned, the recovery plan will proportionally roll back. Additionally, the protocol restates its commitment to neutrality and permissionlessness and will not review the attacker's Swap transactions after trading resumes.
Currently, node operators are voting on the overall direction and principles of the proposal. The specific numbers in the ADR are currently for reference only, and adjustments will be made through the Mimir voting mechanism. The protocol's primary goal is to quickly restart the network, and a vote in favor is an authorization for the development team to continue in this direction.
