The Sandbox Co-Founder's Wife Faces Failed Kidnapping in France, Police Say Incident May Be Linked to Cryptocurrency

BlockBeats News, May 21st, according to the French media Le Journal du Dimanche, The Sandbox co-founder and COO Sebastien Borget's wife was the victim of a kidnapping attempt at their residence in Villenoy, Seine-et-Marne, France this week. The report stated that a man disguised as a delivery person arrived at the residence, and after Borget's wife opened the door, five masked individuals rushed into the yard, attempting to forcefully abduct her into a vehicle. Neighbors intervened upon hearing the cries for help, prompting the suspects to flee the scene.

Currently, two suspects have been arrested, while four others remain at large. The police found fake handguns, zip ties, and balaclavas on the arrested individuals. The French authorities' preliminary investigation suggests that the incident is linked to cryptocurrency. The report indicated that France has seen 41 cryptocurrency-related kidnappings or attempted kidnappings so far this year, with a total of 135 since 2023, accounting for nearly 80% of such cases in Europe.
