According to Dynasty Beating monitoring, hedge fund Citadel is acutely feeling the brutal AI substitution for high-skilled positions internally. Founder and CEO Ken Griffin confirmed at the 2026 Stanford Leadership Forum that the advanced research work that previously required a Master's in Finance and a PhD, taking weeks or even months, is now being batched out by their internally deployed AI agents in a matter of hours or days.
This is not the usual efficiency improvement for mid-level white-collar workers, but a direct deprivation of highly skilled intellectual labor. Griffin admitted that witnessing the rapid automation of the core R&D layer by machines had once left him feeling depressed as he left the office on a Friday. He bluntly framed this impact with a chilling statement borrowed from historian Niall Ferguson: "In the world of AI, humans are the horses replaced by cars back in the day."
Destruction accompanies the dismantling of the old order. Griffin explicitly pointed out that the competition moats that large corporations have long relied on are rapidly being leveled by various AI tools. This has effectively turned the current market into an entrepreneur's fantasyland, with the barrier for small teams to challenge industry giants lowered to an all-time minimum.
